Impulsive Improv Taster – 2 workshops + Auditions (21 Oct)

We have 2 great workshops for you run by Impulse Theatre’s artistic director, Jonathan Briden, PLUS we are looking to expand our performance cast!

When buying tickets, be sure to get a ticket for EACH workshop you want to do, AND the Audition (which is FREE) if you want to do that.

10am to 1pm: Mask workshop ($22)

Working with masks is a great way to learn to be in the moment, and to get out of your head and into your body. It’s also a lot of fun. These workshops are always filled with laughter, which is why it’s one of Jonathan’s most popular workshops at improvisation festivals.

This workshop is suitable for performers of all levels. No matter your experience, you’re sure to find something magical in the world of the mask.

2pm to 5pm: Long-form Improvisation ($22)

There’s lots of ways to improvise. You can play improv games, or do short unconnected scenes, or you can really challenge yourself by creating the improvised equivalent of a comedic or dramatic play. This is the heart of long-form improvisation, where the comedy and drama come from the relationships and characters that you create. If you’ve tried and loved short-form, this is an exciting new way to really push your improv boundaries. If you’ve never done improv, but have some performance experience, you’ll find long-form improv to be a great way to bring out your unique and genuine self.

This workshop is best suited to those with some previous improv training, or performance experience.

5pm: Audition! (FREE)

We have a great, diverse cast of performers at Impulse Theatre, but there’s always room for more! If you’re interested in becoming part of our performance group, this is your chance!

As a member of Impulse Theatre’s performance group you will receive regular training, plus the opportunity to be cast in our shows. Performers in our show receive a profit share from each show they are in.

You do not have to do either workshop in order to audition, but we do strongly recommend you do the “Long-form Improvisation” one unless you are already experienced in this type of improvisation.

For more information see the Rehearsal Group info page.

Cost concerns

We recognise that not everyone is in a position to pay for workshops, but we don’t want that to be a barrier. If you are keen, but not able to afford the cost, please get in touch.
