Katy Schutte: 3 workshops – Feb 2019

In huge demand around the world, we’ve been incredibly lucky to grab Katy Schutte right here in Christchurch!

Katy will be running 3 workshops over the weekend from Friday, 22nd through to Sunday, 24th February 2019, covering a broad range of improvisation skills. The Sunday workshop will also build towards a public performance on the Sunday evening – Genre Performance w/ Katy Schutte

These workshops have been made possible in part thanks to a grant from the Creative Communities Scheme (see below for additional details).

Three Workshops

Friday evening will be a special one-off workshop for women and female and female-identifying participants only.

Saturday and Sunday workshops will be open to all.

All workshops will be in the Common Room Building (aka: Two Productions), at the Christchurch Arts Centre.

Workshop 1: Women in Improv

Friday, 22rd February (evening)

This workshop is for women and female-identifying participants only. The focus is on playing strong female characters, playing against type, playing across gender and learning how to be a badass. We’ll also look at any problems the group have come up against in their improv experiences and make and find tools to be invincible.

Workshop 2: Longform Improv Toolkit

Saturday, 23rd February (daytime)

An opportunity to upgrade your long form improv toolkit, or even step into long form for the first time. Topics include: object and space work, editing, character, point of view, the different styles of play, types of initiation, building trust and group mind.

Workshop 3: Playing Genre

Sunday, 24th February (daytime)

We’ll be looking at popular genres, identifying tropes, structures and characters in order to find an original show in that style. We will look at a bunch of genres (including ones you bring along and want to work on) and then pick a favourite to perform in the evening.

Performance – Directed by Katy Schutte

Sunday, 24th February – 7:30pm show

On Sunday evening there is a public performance, directed by Katy. This will be a genre-based show. To be eligible for the performance you will have, at a minimum, attended the Sunday workshop. Casting will be determined after the workshop on Sunday. The call time for cast of the show will be 6:45pm.

The performance will be at the Performing Arts Centre at Heaton Intermediate.
